DOUBLE PLANNING SUCCESS FOR YORK ARCHITECTS

A multi million pound extension to York’s award-winning Monkbar Hotel designed by DWA Architects has been given the thumbs up.

Work on the impressive new four storey, 1,170m2 extension and refurbishment at the city centre hotel is due to get underway in the New Year. It will provide three new ground floor conference rooms, plus 25 additional en-suite rooms across three upper floors, bringing the total rooms to 129. The project will also involve soft landscaping around the car park and entrance areas, together with a new seating

area outside the new and existing conference rooms.

This month the DWA team has also been granted planning permission for a first floor extension, internal upgrade and refurbishment to Rosevale Care Home in Wigginton. This scheme will ensure that all rooms are en-suite and exceed the national standards for care services.

DWA chief executive, David Ward, says, “These are just two of several projects we’ve got in the pipeline in the York area. We’re very active throughout the UK, but it’s great to have the opportunity to get more involved in the development of the city where we’ve been based for the last 20 years.”

DWA Architects is York’s largest and one of the north’s leading multi-disciplinary architecture and design practices. With headquarters in York, and offices in Warrington and London, DWA Architects currently employs 80 people nationwide.
